The turkey cookies that weren't

Last year, I made turkey cookies for the kids for all my Thanksgiving events. They were super easy and a hit, so I thought I would start a new tradition with Avery this year. She is getting old enough to really help in the kitchen, so I figured this would be fun. She talked about it all week, and this afternoon we did it.

Avery hard at work

Davis wanted to help too....

Ok here is where Mommy had to make a call. Be all OCD about the cookies, make them look good, and do it myself, or just let the kids have at it.

You can see I chose the latter.

I hope everyone appreciates their creativity...and I really hope you like gel icing, because they Drowned the cookies in it.

Gene Simmons eat your heart out

Monday morning, I made the mistake of taking a little too long in the shower.I came out to find Davis with my mascara...Well, as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words.

My Thanksgiving top 10

I am just returning home from a wonderful, heart warming, tear-jerker of a Thanksgiving service. Everyone (even the little ones) went around and said what they were thankful for. I thought it would be nice to post here for everyone else to read....

1. I am thankful for my little family. Nick, Avery & Davis are my life.
2. I am thankful for my parents. I am grateful that they raised me to be a good person and that I can look to them as positive examples of how to raise my kids.
3. I am thankful for my sisters. Thru thick & thin- good, bad & ugly….there is no greater friend or confidante than a sister.
4. I am thankful for my “in-laws.” George & Pat are like a 2nd set of parents to me, and I love them like they are. I have the greatest brothers & sisters in law that anyone could ask for.
5. I am thankful for my beautiful, healthy niece and nephews. Elli, Philip, Coleby, cody, Matthew, & Riley have a special place in my heart.
6. I am thankful for my friends.
7. I am thankful to be at elm street. My church family means more to me than you know.
8. I am thankful for music.
9. I am thankful for Starbucks.
10. I am thankful for my life. Thank you Lord for allowing me this blessed time on earth and the opportunity for a life with you in Heaven.

Worth reposting

From my friend Amanda....It was too good not to share.

How Many Feminists Does it Take to Screw in a Light Bulb?...

I cannot count the number of times in my life that I have heard the following statement:

You can do anything you want.

Teachers, parents, motivational speakers...they all kept telling the females of my generation that we could do anything we want. They pushed the issue...women can do anything that men can do. For the most part, I grew up believing that I could pursue any career I wanted to.

So, I went to college. I pursued my education. I worked hard. I entered the workforce, and I still worked hard.

Because I can do anything I put my mind to. Right?

Then, our family began to expand. I paid for daycare. I still pay for daycare. And, I still worked hard.

Because I can succeed in any job I want. Right?

The work didn't stop at the office. As our family grew, so did the piles of laundry and toys. The fingerprints on the glass seemed to multiply while I was asleep at night. So, I worked harder to try and keep up with the office, the house, the husband, the children.

After all, I can do anything I want to. Right?

I find myself at war...an internal war between my emotion and my cognition. The brain half of the war keeps telling me to just deal with it and keep working. The heart half of the war keeps telling me to be more like June Cleaver.

How does anyone ever truly find the balance between family and career? Is there a magic formula that I haven't figured out yet? Do I need antidepressants? Should I call Oprah's booking agent?

It seems to me that many women I know struggle with this.

Women who were pushed to stay home with the children dreamed of equality in the workforce. Women who work dream of staying home with the children.

My math skills are admittedly not what they once were, so I'm having trouble solving this equation.

Thanksgiving program

The 3 & 4 year olds had a Thanksgiving program and lunch last Friday.

Avery was proud to have Mommy, Daddy, Dayday & Nana eating with her.

Davis & Riley....trading mints.

Aves & Riley- buddies

Funny how little girls already know "the pose."
Avery & her friend Thea.

My cutey patooties in their Turkey shirts.
Yes, I will match them as long as I can.

I really worry about Avery being so shy and afraid to sing out.

HA!! She loves to sing, just like her Mama.

Avery with two of her "boyfriends," Caiden & Chase.
F.Y.I., she has 5.

Pilgrims.

DayDay. Wishing he were out there with big Sis.

The CMA's

In front of the gorgeous view at MJ's house

Waiting on the steps to be seated

As soon as the Awards were over, I rushed to George's seat. He left his program! Here I am with it, in his (still warm) seat

After hours at Second Fiddle

Last Wednesday nite, I had the honor & privelege to be a seat filler at the Country Music Awards. For those that know me well, you know this was a dream come true. We couldn't take a camera, so unfortunately no paparazzi shots here, but I will describe it in one word: magical.

Some bragging...
I eventually sat in the 6th row for most of the show, 5 rows right behind the one and only George Strait. I sat by/across/behind Jamey Johnson, Mac McAnally,Joey&Rory, Lady Antebellum, and Brooks & Dunn. I got to see George, Keith & Nicole, Kenny & Dave, and Faith & Tim up close and personal. It truly was an amazing nite.

Thanks Parker sisters for helping me do this! I love yall! And thanks to Mary JO for the always wonderful hospitality.

The latest craze

Anybody else's kids like these???
side note: Avery asked me to take this picture of her bracelets and "put it on Facebook"

Santa comes early!

The kids asked for a playset from Santa this year. We decided to go ahead and get it so they could actually enjoy it, not pull it out in the dead of winter and then tell them its too cold to play on it. Needless to say, every afternoon this is where you will find us. I am so thankful the weather has been absolutely perfect the past several days, it has given them plenty of time to break in the new equipment.

I'm a big kid now!

While Nick was away watching the Tide roll, Mom came over and help me convert the kids beds. Davis went from a crib to a toddler bed, and Avery went from a Toddler bed to a "big girl" twin bed.

I am embarassed to say that neither of my kids were sleeping in their own bed. Avery never has (long story) and Davis loved his crib until his bout with pneumonia. A couple of nites in the hospital and a few more at home with Mommy, and he was never going back alone.

I am hoping this "new" sleeping arangement will encourage them to sleep by themselves. I really want my bed back.

Sunshine rx

We have all felt pretty yucky the past few days, so I decided a little trip to the park might do us some good today.

Patient one: Runny nose, itchy watery eyes, overall bad mood...

Solution: Playing in the leaves!

Patient two: Lethargic, asthmatic, overall bad mood...

Solution: Sliding & Duck chasing.

I think the day was a success, both kids wore themselves out, got a healthy dose of Vitamin D, and took wonderful afternoon naps.

Nothing says I had a great day at the park like some stained pants.

Happy Birthday Nick!
